German Awards - Cross "For Merit to the Fatherland"
This cross was instituted by Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst on January 27, 1918. Awarded to persons who earned during the war of 1914-1918. special merits in the field of military affairs at home.
Tasks included caring for the wounded who returned home or other activities that served as support.
Elongated cross made of dark gray tinted zinc. The ends of the spider are rounded. The cruciform shoulders have broad smooth, raised edges. The insides are finely indented. Front and back sides with a round central shield. (18 mm) On the upper cruciform shoulder is a small eye, to which an open ironing crown is attached by means of a hinge. A ribbon ring passes through the imperial crown apple.
